Old Project

11/03/2009

These are some images from the denim project I had last year. I made this waistcoat using old jeans and denim jackets then manipulated the surface with paint, inks, zips and stitch.

This was from an email newsletter from asos.com . I like the belt and shoulder detail, as if its a DIY job. This is the kind of details and designs i want to create in my Laundry project. My main idea is as if i have taken someones laundry basket and mixed all the clothes up so i have different materials, prints, textures etc all mixed together to create something exciting and new.

I have a stong love for denim. Its amazing! I did a project last year where I used old jeans and denim jackets. I cut them all up and produced a waistcoat-it didn’t turn out perfectly but I was still¬† happy with it, after all it was the first thing I had ever reallly made myself! I put white paint and coloured inks onto it as i was doing a project on shells and wanted to get exciting textures. I also used a lot of zips which turned out to be a lot of fun. I will uploads some of my images soon!

In my new project I am again looking at reusing old clothes and these designs are key examples. The details which are normally missed are on show and become exciting, for example the zips, buttons and design labels.
